Sweet Baby

Soft infant, eyes so wide
I pray, what lies before thee
Can I shelter you sweet child?
So unknowing of life’s malaise

You’re safe and smiling
Smiles I gaze to share
What lies behind those eyes
Joy of all eternity

Tiny mind unclouded, unstained
How sweet your thoughts must be
The world it grinds and grinds away
But in your crib tonight you stay

Opening gate awaits
Your innocence, your purity
They lie waiting to devour
The spires of your bliss

Let me protect you from
The webs that lie waiting
Where they’ll take what isn’t theirs
Gold that weighs in your heart

Take your time, there is no rush
World forever will be
Sweet baby, sleep and dream
Rest the night in peace
